The Library of Congress will present the highly regarded Cygnus Ensemble with guest artists Miranda Cuckson (violin); Daniel Panner, (viola) and Blair McMillen (piano) The evening will include the world premiere of a new work,Kreisleriana, by Harold Meltzer, a recipient of the prestigious Rome Prize and co-founder of the ensemble, Sequitur. This work was commissioned by the Library’s McKim Fund. Meltzer’s much acclaimed sextet, Brion, will also be heard in its Washington premiere. The Cygnus Ensemble will also perform seldom-heard chamber music by the Austrian violin master, Friedrich “Fritz” Kreisler, including performances on Kreisler’s priceless Guarneri del Gesù violin from the Library’s collection.The concert and play are free but tickets are required. They are available through TicketMaster for a nominal service charge. A pre-concert presentation by Harold Meltzer and Cygnus founder William Anderson (for which no tickets are required) will take place at 6:15 p.m. in the Library’s Whittall Pavilion.
