Violinist James Stern presents a unique, modern synthesis of poetry and unaccompanied violin music: a dramatic recitation of T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, punctuated by solo violin renditions of the poem’s Wagnerian allusions and set against a backdrop of post-Wagnerian rhapsodies by Eugène Ysaÿe and Leon Kirchner. After intermission, VERGE pianist Audrey Andrist and guest hornist James Ross join Stern for György Ligeti’s “Hommage à Brahms.”
