NEW DATES | CALL FOR ENTRIES As from this year the World Wide Video Festival will be held a month later than in previous years. he new dates of the festival are 10 October to 11 November. We hope that this arrangement will be of some help to festival guests and visitors, who have been finding it increasingly difficult to book hotel accomodation in Amsterdam.
This year there will be a sequel to the four-day series of premiere events. Over the following weekends, the various festival venues will host a series of 'special events', which will include screenings, performances and discussions. The installation exhibitions at several of the festival locations, and the selection of single-screen works at the 'world wide media lounge', will remain open daily until November 11.
One of this year's special focuses is the development of media art in Africa. The festival organisers are currently exploring the media-art scene in several African countries and their findings will be reflected in the festival programme. Net.art and multi-disciplinary projects are other areas of special emphasis in 2001. The festival will also present a wide selection of new video and dvd productions, as well as three solo exhibitions.
CALL FOR ENTRIES
Artists are invited to submit work for selection. Entry forms for the 19th World Wide Video Festival are currently online. The festival invites the submission of cd-roms, dvds, installations, net.art projects, artistic software productions (including computer games) and videos completed after 1999.
Entry forms should be submitted via our website before April 15. Please check the website for further details http://www.wwvf.nl/2001/.
1) DIGITAL VIDEO PROJECTION/PERFORMANCE 2) VIDEO/LIGHT INSTALLATION
INFO- The desktop computer, digital video technology, and an assortment of off the shelf applications for manipulating media have become increasingly accessible to artists in their homes and studios. These technologies have energized and informed the creative manipulation of video content, inspiring artistic sensibilities from the cyber punk, the web monkey, the 3-D guru, the animation warrior and the super videopheliac. The organization and presentation of information in art work by these future hungry technobrats inspires genre, creating new artistic expressions through the mixture and methodology of digital media; audio, still images, motion graphics, animation, 3-D, live action, interactivity, performance elements, text/speech, narrative, audience participation, and installation in the work of individuals and collaborators throughout a landscape of multiple disciplines.
SUBMIT- innovating and smashing new video performative work, which includes digital video and explores these technologies and artologies. Engaging work with content that challenges the traditional format of video projection and includes other media is encouraged. The content is left to the artist. Artists with installation work, which utilizes video and light combined with other media to be displayed before and after the projected work, are also encouraged to submit a proposal.

The changes wrought by the terrible events of September 11, 2001 are still becoming visible. The arts community has, like every other area of life, been deeply affected by the terrorism and its aftermath. In response to the horrors and destruction in New York City and Washington, D C, the Santa Fe Art Institute is contributing to the support and normalization of life in America. The Santa Fe Art Institute is offering two to four week residencies in beautiful, quiet residence spaces with studios as respite for artists whose living spaces or studios have been compromised by the terrorism. The residencies are available during the fall and winter at no cost to the artists.
Please send a letter (and slides if possible) to The Santa Fe Art Institute, 1600 St Michaels Drive, Santa Fe, NM 87505, Or email to: info@SFAI.org
Longwood Cyber Studio is equipped with four NT networked pc workstations, Internet accessibility, software programs such as Microsoft Office 2000, the entire Adobe suite including Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash and Director, a flatbed scanner, zip drive and color printer. We would also like to offer access to our administrative office as regards your telephone and fax needs. While they are well aware that access to computer and office equipment only offers relief of a material nature, they hope that relief may help to assuage some of the worries of those affected by this loss. Bronx Council on the Arts again sends our sincere condolences and warmest thoughts.

International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Germany:
(May
2-7, 2002)
Deadline
for Submissions: January 15, 2002
For
applications + information: http://www.kurzfilmtage.de
About
the Festival:
The
International Short Film Festival Oberhausen has become one of the world's
most respected film events - a place where filmmakers and artists such
as Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, David Lynch, Alexander Kluge and Werner
Herzog, and more recently Ulrike Ottinger, Romuald Karmakar, Pipilotti
Rist, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and François Ozon have presented their
first films.
Each
year the Short Film Festival Oberhausen is able to present numerous world
premieres and international first-runs in this context. Among the entries
submitted during the course of the nearly 50-year history of this competition
one finds names such as Eija-Lisa Ahtila, Doug Aitken, Igor & Gleb
Aleinikov, Santiago Alvarez, Lindsay Anderson, Robert Breer, Robert Frank,
Michel Gondry, James Herbert, Takashi Ito, Aki Kaurismäki, David Larcher,
Spike Lee, Jan Lenica, Chris Marker, Don McKellar, Jonas Mekas, Idrissa
Ouedraogo, Roman Polanski, Alain Resnais, Jacques Rivette, Glauber Rocha,
Raul Ruiz, Zbigniew Rybczynski, Ousmane Sembène, Jan Svankmajer,
István Szabó, Alain Tanner, Johan van der Keuken, Gus Van
Sant, Agnes Varda, Gilian Wearing, Krzystof Zanussi, and Zelimir Zilnik.
Film + Video Included:
The
equal treatment of video and film in the competitions since the early nineties,
the consistent incorporation of advertising and industrial films, and the
introduction of the world's first festival award for a music video made
in Germany - the MuVi - in the late nineties, are all aspects that place
the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen at the forefront of the
short film scene. Furthermore, in cooperation with its media partners,
Arte, 3sat and more recently MTV, the Festival has helped to open up new
audiences for short films. In their short film programs, Arte and 3sat
have been cooperating with the Festival for years, while in 2001 MTV for
the first time televised 25 short films from the programsof the International
Short Film Festival Oberhausen.
Film Market:
In
addition to the Festival Catalogue, the Short Film Festival also publishes
an extensive Film Market Catalogue each year containing crew and genre
information, brief descriptions in two languages and production addresses
for each film submitted, as well as a separate overview of film schools
in Germany. Indexes organized by genre, director and running time facilitate
working with the catalogue. The Film Market has established an international
reputation as the largest market for German-produced short films, as well
as films and videos of the most diverse formatsand genres. Every year buyers
from Australia, France, the USA, Austria, Sweden and many other countries
purchase on average about 200 festival submissions. In response to
this resounding success, the Film Market was expanded in 2000 to include
market screenings. In 2000/01 these screenings focussed on films from South
East Asia, Australia and South Africa, giving production companies, film
schools and national film institutions in these countries the chance to
present their current film production to a Western audience of film industry
insiders. The Film Market Catalogue was made available online for
the first time in 2001. This provides industry repre-sentatives with an
opportunity not only to obtain information on available films prior to
the festival, but also during the rest of the year. In the Short Film Exchange
Section you will find an online catalogue of more around 15,000 short films
consisting of the Market Catalogues 1997 to 2001. The Film Market Catalogues
of future festivals will be regularly added.
